DOH Allocates Over PHP 22 Million for Medical Assistance in Iloilo Hospitals
ILOILO CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) has dedicated PHP 22 million to the Medical Assistance to Indigent and Financially Incapacitated Patients (MAIFIP) Program, aimed at supporting 13 hospitals under the management of the Iloilo provincial government.
According to Philippine News Agency, a resolution was passed during its regular session on Tuesday to authorize Governor Arthur Governor Jr. to sign a memorandum of agreement with the DOH Western Visayas Center for Health Development (WV CHD) to implement the program. Board Member and Floor Leader Domingo Oso Jr. emphasized the urgency of the resolution’s enactment to expedite the MOA’s implementation.
The funding allocation will see PHP6.05 million directed to the Iloilo Provincial Hospital. The Aleosan District Hospital and the Rep. Pedro G. Trono Memorial Hospital will each receive PHP3 million. Remaining funds will be distributed equally among ten other local hospitals, with each receiving PHP1 million.
DOH WV CHD Regional Director Adriano Suba-an noted that this initiative is part of broader efforts to achieve Universal Health Care, highlighting its importance in increasing health care access for vulnerable populations in Western Visayas. In 2023, the MAIFIP served 177,607 patients, demonstrating its significant impact on the region’s health care system.
This year, the total allocation for the region is over PHP1.340 billion, with more than PHP298 million already obligated as of May, benefiting 47,400 patients across 79 government and private hospitals. The program still has over PHP1.04 billion in remaining funds to be utilized.
