Digitalization Program Boosts Prospects for ‘Sari-Sari’ Stores in Negros Oriental
Negros Oriental — The Department of Trade and Industry’s nationwide launch of the Tindahan Mo: e-Level Up Mo Program on Wednesday is poised to significantly increase the earnings of ‘sari-sari’ (neighborhood sundry) store owners in Negros Oriental by integrating modern digital tools into their operations.
According to Philippines News Agency, spokesperson for DTI-Negros Oriental, the program targets sari-sari store owners, recognizing them as critical yet underserved players within the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) sector. Bato emphasized that these stores, traditionally the primary local source for basic commodities, must adapt to the digital age to enhance their economic contribution and sustainability. The new initiative encourages the adoption of cashless transactions, direct online purchasing from suppliers, and an expansion into online sales channels.
During the initial module of the program, titled ‘e-level Up ang Negosyo,’ 241 entrepreneurs from various cities and towns in Negros Oriental participated. These included individuals from Dumaguete City, Bindoy, La Libertad, Dauin, Amlan, Valencia, Bais City, Siaton, and Sibulan. Local government units provided venues, while DTI handled the technical setup for the event.
The program also featured additional resources such as a presentation by Small Business Corp. (SB Corp.), DTI’s financing arm, which outlined available loan options for sari-sari store owners and other MSMEs at favorable interest rates and with simplified online application processes. Moreover, in collaboration with Smart Wireless, DTI introduced the Smart Ka Partner Mo package, designed to enhance internet connectivity for sari-sari stores at promotional rates.
With the success of the initial event, DTI is optimistic about the participation in the upcoming modules scheduled for the rest of the year. These include sessions on online marketing, funding, inventory management, and operational improvements set for July 24, August 28, September 25, and October 23, respectively.
