DepEd Pledges to Ensure Safe School Environments Following Cotabato Teacher Ambush

Cotabato Province, Philippines – The Department of Education (DepEd) has emphasized its commitment to providing safe and nurturing environments for teachers and learners in the aftermath of a tragic ambush in Banisilan, Cotabato Province, which resulted in the deaths of a teacher and her husband.

According to Philippines News Agency, Angelie Cañete Romanguera and her husband Juanito were attacked by armed men while on their way to Pantar Elementary School in Barangay Wadya. Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Z. Duterte strongly condemned the violence and extended her condolences to the victims' family. She called on law enforcement authorities to apprehend and bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.

Duterte reaffirmed DepEd's dedication to ensuring that learning environments are safe and free from violence, fear, and intimidation.
