Davao Dive Expo 2024 to Focus on Marine Conservation and Sustainable Tourism
Davao City – The third edition of the Davao Dive Expo, scheduled for July 5-7, 2024, aims to spotlight marine conservation efforts and promote sustainable tourism practices, as announced by a Department of Tourism (DOT-11) official.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DOT-11 regional director, this year’s expo will emphasize the importance of ocean advocacy and the role of tourism in sustaining marine environments. “This year’s Davao Dive Expo is entering its third edition, and we are shifting our focus to ocean advocacy. Negative impacts, often stemming from human activities, have significant effects on both land and the oceans,” Rabat-Tan stated during a press briefing. She highlighted that the expo would also showcase efforts by various organizations to protect marine life and promote tourism as an alternative to extractive industries.
The event will feature the launch of a new dive site in Mabini, Davao de Oro, building on last year’s addition of a site in Governor Generoso town, Davao Oriental. “Last year, we launched it in Governor Generoso town in Davao Oriental, and this time around, we will be launching the Mabini dive site. Also, the group’s conservation efforts will focus there,” Tan added.
With the tagline “Dive with a Purpose,” the Davao Dive Expo seeks to inspire other local government units (LGUs) across the Davao Region and the entire country to adopt sustainable practices. The three-day event will provide opportunities for attendees to explore various diving destinations in the region, including the Island Garden City of Samal in Davao del Norte, Mati City in Davao Oriental, and the new site in Mabini, Davao de Oro.
