Post: Davao City Mayor Urges Village Officials to Prioritize the Poor

Davao City – Mayor Sebastian Duterte has advised newly elected village officials in Davao City to prioritize the needs of the 'poorest of the poor.' During the oath-taking ceremony at the Davao City Recreation Center on Monday, Duterte urged the officials of 182 barangays to be selfless and address the needs of their constituents, especially those who are less fortunate. He also encouraged them to move past election disputes and focus on resolving issues facing their communities.

According to Philippines News Agency, Duterte's message of prioritizing the poor was echoed by first-time politician Omar Duterte, the newly elected Barangay Buhangin captain, who plans to continue programs and projects benefiting his barangay residents. He expressed his intention to seek guidance from his father, Davao City 2nd District Rep. Paolo Duterte, and former president Rodrigo R. Duterte.

Meanwhile, addressing local challenges, Roberto Olanolan, Barangay 76-A village chief, highlighted the issue of frequent flooding in his area. Following recent reports of evacuations due to flooding in the city, Olanolan plans to focus on improving the barangay's drainage system. Likewise, Barangay Lasang village chair Allan Simo-ag emphasized the need to improve drainage systems due to ongoing developments in his area.

For Buhangin village chairperson Duterte, addressing the sewage system remains a priority, especially during the rainy season when water overflow is a recurring problem. These initiatives reflect the local officials' commitment to tackling immediate community concerns and improving living conditions for their constituents.
