Post: Davao City Government Provides Aid to Flood Victims with Distribution of 9,000 Welfare Goods

Davao City – The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) in Davao City has distributed approximately 9,000 welfare goods to families affected by the inner-city and street flooding that occurred on November 8. CSWDO focal person for community welfare program Mae Aquino revealed on Tuesday that the assistance reached 8,465 families, impacting 19,037 dependents.

According to Philippines News Agency, Aquino mentioned that the CSWDO continues its distribution efforts to reach more affected families and ensure timely aid. The recent flooding resulted in 52 damaged houses, with the majority located in Talomo B, followed by Talomo A and Toril-A. The CSWDO is still assessing the extent of the damage to provide appropriate assistance. Meanwhile, the City Health Office (CHO) issued health warnings against leptospirosis and skin diseases following the flooding. CHO head Dr. Thomas Miguel Ababon reported that medical teams were deployed to affected areas to ensure the health of evacuees and residents in flood-hit villages.

Dr. Ababon emphasized the importance of preventive medication against leptospirosis, a potentially fatal disease spread through infected flood water. The medical teams remain on standby in the worst-hit areas to provide necessary treatment and medication. Despite the flooding, no major injuries were reported, and those with minor injuries have received medical attention.
