CrowdStrike CEO Confirms 97% Recovery of Windows Sensors After Global IT Outage

SAN FRANCISCO — CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz announced that 97 percent of Windows sensors affected by last week’s global IT outage have been restored as of Thursday. The outage was triggered by an update to the Falcon Sensor, which is used to protect Windows operating systems.

According to Philippines News Agency, while the majority of the systems are back online, the company is not yet finished with its recovery efforts. “To our customers still affected, please know we will not rest until we achieve full recovery,” Kurtz stated in a LinkedIn post. He expressed deep regret for the inconvenience caused and personally apologized to all those impacted.

Kurtz detailed that CrowdStrike has implemented enhanced automatic recovery techniques and mobilized extensive resources to assist customers during this period. He further noted that a preliminary incident report (PIR) has been published, outlining the cause of the disruption and the steps being taken to prevent future incidents. The PIR revealed that the outage, which began on July 19 and impacted thousands of computers globally, was due to a content configuration update that inadvertently affected the Falcon Sensor. The problematic update was reverted last Friday.
