Bandar Seri Begawan: The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in January 2025 registered a 0.4 per cent decrease compared to January 2024. This was driven by the declines of 1% in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index, and 0.2% in the Non-Food index.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the decrease in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index was contributed primarily by lower chicken meat prices due to lower domestic demand, and a fall in the prices of imported fresh fish and prawns. As for the Non-Food index, the decline of 1.2% in Transport was attributed to lower air fares. Meanwhile, the Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels category recorded a decline of 0.8%, particularly in the price of maintenance and repair of the dwellings.
For a month-on-month comparison, the CPI in January 2025 registered a 1.2% decrease compared to December 2024. This was driven by a 1.6% decrease in the Non-Food index, while the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index showed a 0.4% increase.
