Chery Tiggo Secures Lead in PVL All-Filipino Conference with Victory Over Strong Group
QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Chery Tiggo showcased their prowess on the volleyball court by defeating the Strong Group with a convincing three-set match, 25-12, 25-17, 25-19, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday. This victory places them at the forefront of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.
According to Philippines News Agency, Mylene Paat led the Crossovers with a stellar performance, contributing nine attacks and an ace, propelling the team to their second consecutive win in the tournament. EJ Laure matched Paat’s nine attacks, while Czarina Grace Carandang and Princess Anne Robles each added seven points to the team’s tally. Aby Maraño rounded out the scoring with six points, culminating in a swift match duration of one hour and seventeen minutes.
Coach Emilio “Kungfu” Reyes Jr. expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, noting, “We’re getting better every game. That’s what we’re after. We were able to execute good plays so we’re happy.” The team’s coherent strategy and effective execution were evident in their dominant play.
The Strong Group, on the other hand, faced a challenging start in their inaugural PVL season, suffering their second loss in a row following a previous defeat to Petro Gazz. Justine Andrea Rebleza, Sheeka Espinosa, and team captain Dolly Grace Versoza each scored eight points for Strong Group in their latest match.
Chery Tiggo commenced their season with a resounding victory over Capital1 Solar, winning 25-6, 25-15, 25-15, setting a high standard for their campaign. Looking ahead, the team aims to maintain their winning streak in their next match against Choco Mucho on the following Saturday.
Mylene Paat emphasized the importance of the team’s initial victories, stating, “Our first two games are of big help for the team, especially in the fielding of players and the decision-making of our coaches. We should all be really ready and we can use these wins against Choco Mucho.”
