CEBU CITY — Over 2,000 individuals affected by recent fire incidents in Metro Cebu have received a total of PHP12.4 million in assistance, as reported by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Central Visayas. The aid, distributed among 644 families, includes food, non-food items, and cash support. Specifically, victims in Barangay Looc, Mandaue City, received PHP10.1 million in aid following a fire on March 12 that devastated the community, impacting 515 families.
According to Philippines News Agency, regional director of the DSWD in Central Visayas, the assistance was supplemented by an additional PHP18.6 million from the Mandaue City government, covering meals, water, and medical support. Meanwhile, families in Cansojong, Talisay City, were provided with PHP2.3 million in assistance after a fire on March 19 left 129 families homeless. The support package included family food packs, bottled water, family kits, sleeping kits, and cash assistance facilitated through the Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situations program and the office of Congressman Rhea Gullas.
