Bureau of Immigration Intercepts Foreign Sex Offenders at NAIA
Manila – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has reported the interception of foreign sex offenders at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), highlighting ongoing efforts to protect Filipinos from potential harm. BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco emphasized the bureau’s vigilance in preventing the entry of these individuals into the country.
According to Philippines News Agency, the BI is actively monitoring and stopping sex offenders of various nationalities from entering the Philippines. The bureau’s recent actions at NAIA included the denial of entry to two sex offenders: Maik Bohr, a 57-year-old German national, and Lewis Steven Sterling, a 67-year-old American. Bohr, who arrived from the United Arab Emirates, was flagged based on intelligence information about his involvement in child exploitation and abuse materials. A directive issued by Tansingco last month had alerted BI officers to Bohr’s potential arrival. Sterling, who arrived from Taipei, has a record of aggravated sexual assault of a child dating back to 1998 in Texas. Both individuals will be blacklisted by the BI, barring their entry to the Philippines indefinitely.
