Malolos, Bulacan - Six public markets in the province of Bulacan were honored for their exemplary maintenance of cleanliness and safety, providing secure environments for consumers and vendors alike.
According to Philippines News Agency, the "Huwarang Palengke" awards recognized three large and three small markets for upholding superior standards of cleanliness, safety, sustainability, and regulatory compliance. In the large market category, Santa Maria Public Market earned the top spot, followed by Hagonoy Public Market and San Ildefonso Public Market. Among the smaller markets, Pulilan Public Market was declared the winner, with Angat Public Market and Bustos Public Market in second and third place, respectively.
Special recognition was given to Hagonoy Public Market for being the most improved, while Doña Remedios Public Market and San Rafael Public Market received accolades for exceptional cleanliness.
The commendation is a part of a joint program by the Department of Trade and Industry Bulacan Provincial Office (DTI-Bulacan), the provincial government, and the Bulacan Consumer Affairs Council (BCAC). The initiative, "Huwarang Palengke," is designed to advance the public market sector within the province, safeguarding consumer rights and protection against unethical trade practices.
Edna Dizon, the Assistant Regional Director for DTI-Region 3 and the Provincial Director for DTI-Bulacan, during the event's livestream, commended the awarded markets for their robust adherence to consumer welfare and protection as dictated by the government's mandates. She emphasized that the program encourages markets to foster safe and healthful shopping areas that also offer quality goods at reasonable prices.
Furthermore, Dizon mentioned that the competition encourages local government units and market administrators to aspire to and maintain rigorous standards of cleanliness and safety in their facilities. Certificates of recognition were also presented to the local governments of Pandi and Santa Maria for their exceptional support and collaboration with their market offices, highlighting a joint commitment to enhancing consumer well-being and local market development.
