Bukidnon Police on Alert, Caution Against Bomb Threat Hoaxes

BUKIDNON – The Bukidnon Provincial Police Office (BPPO) has heightened its alert status in response to circulating online bomb threats.

According to Philippines News Agency, The BPPO’s Provincial Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit (PECU) stated on Monday that while the authenticity of a Philippine National Police memorandum regarding bomb threats in populous areas of Bukidnon shared on social media is not confirmed, it warrants attention. The document, intended for internal PNP use for verification and investigation, was inadvertently made public, leading to the BPPO-PECU’s advisory against sharing it further to avoid public alarm and confusion.

The Malaybalay City Police Station (MCPS) has identified a ‘person of interest’ who is alleged to have spread the unverified document on Facebook. Executive Master Sgt. Alexander Calma of the MCPS revealed that the individual’s parents ascribed his actions to mental health issues and were asked to present a medical certificate. Absence of such evidence might result in legal consequences under Presidential Decree No. 1727, also known as the anti-bomb joke law, which condemns the intentional spread of false bomb or explosive threats.
