Tutong: The Religious Council of Brunei Darussalam has taken stringent action against Tandakasih Restaurant in the Kampung Keriam branch after discovering the use of brushes made from pig bristles, a clear violation of halal certification requirements. This revelation has led to the cancellation of the restaurant’s Halal Certificate and Halal Supervisor Certificate.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the Ministry of Religious Affairs emphasized the importance for all halal certificate holders in Brunei to adhere strictly to the halal certification standards. These standards stipulate that all equipment, ingredients, and food preparation processes must be halal, pure, and free from any non-halal or questionable elements. The discovery of the pig bristle brushes was made during routine monitoring by the Halal Food Control Division.
The case is currently under investigation pursuant to Section 37 of the Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order, 2005. This section outlines penalties for violations, which may include imprisonment of up to two years, a fine not exceeding BND8,000, or both. The incident underscores the importance of compliance with halal regulations to maintain the integrity of halal certification in the country.
