Post: Brunei Darussalam Calls for Balanced Regional Energy Initiatives at AZEC PLUS Leaders’ Summit

Brunei darussalam: The ongoing fuel supply disruptions have underscored the crucial need for energy efficiency and fuel affordability as national policy priorities. Although Brunei Darussalam is relatively well-positioned, it is not immune to the effects of price volatility impacting both households and industries. The issue was highlighted by the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Defence, who participated in the Asia Zero Emissions Community Plus, AZEC PLUS Leaders' Summit via online.

According to Radio Television Brunei, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof emphasized that Brunei supports a measured approach and is committed to accelerating the adoption of alternative energy resources, including renewable energy. This acceleration will be paced to align with national circumstances while continuing investment in oil and gas. As a stable and trusted energy producer, Brunei stressed that regional initiatives must be inclusive, balanced, mutually beneficial, and respectful of each country's national energy security.

The Summit was chaired by Her Excellency Sanae Takaichi, Prime Minister of Japan, who pointed out that the countries most affected by the supply chain disruptions are in the Asian region. She called for stronger regional cooperation to tackle energy security challenges. The Prime Minister announced plans to further develop AZEC, incorporating economic and energy resilience by integrating decarbonisation, economic growth, and energy security. The participation of Brunei in the Summit reflects its ongoing commitment to regional cooperation while ensuring national energy security and economic stability. Also participating was Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Azmi bin Haji Mohd Hanifah, Deputy Minister for Energy at the Prime Minister's Office.
