Post: Brunei and Sarawak Formalize Energy Cooperation Through MoU

Kuching: To enhance energy cooperation, the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of Sarawak, Malaysia signed and exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Energy Cooperation. The MoU signing took place during the opening ceremony of the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Forum 4.0, held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching. It serves as an overarching framework for future collaboration in oil and gas activities, power, energy transition, and any other mutually agreed activities between Brunei Darussalam and Sarawak, Malaysia.

According to Radio Television Brunei, signing the MoU on behalf of the Government of His Majesty was Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Azmi bin Haji Mohd Hanifah, Deputy Minister for Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office, while the Government of Sarawak, Malaysia was represented by Yang Berhormat Dato Haji Ibrahim bin Haji Baki, Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy Berhad and PETROS), Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak. The ongoing collaboration to broaden the scope of energy cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Sarawak was also reflected in the Joint Statement.

The signing and exchange of the MoU further emphasize the energy sector as one of the important pillars of strategic cooperation and also reflect the joint commitment to strengthening sustainable development, energy security, and regional connectivity.
