Kazan: During a bilateral meeting with President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral engagement. He highlighted the finalization of a Memorandum of Understanding on Naval Cooperation and other pending agreements as priorities. His Majesty also stressed the significance of strengthening people-to-people ties and exploring investment opportunities. This year marks the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brunei and Russia, which have developed into substantial cooperation in education, defense, security, and cultural exchanges.
According to Radio Television Brunei, His Majesty was accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the meeting held in Kazan, Russian Federation. During the discussions, both leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. Topics included Brunei’s support for an independent State of Palestine based on the two-state solution and pre-1967 borders, as well as Russia’s consistent backing of ASEAN Centrality and the Palestinian cause. His Majesty expressed hope that diplomatic efforts would safeguard commerce, reduce regional tensions, and lead to a swift, peaceful outcome in regions such as the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, His Majesty conveyed appreciation to President Putin for his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and extended an invitation for a state visit to Brunei Darussalam.
