Bacolod City Aids Commuters During Transport Strike

Bacolod City-The city government of Bacolod provided transportation assistance to stranded commuters affected by a two-day strike by traditional jeepney operators and drivers, which ended on Thursday. The strike, led by Kabakod Negros and Bacod Kambyada Manibela, was a protest against the Public Transport Modernization Program.

According to Philippines News agency, operations chief of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the city deployed three rescue vehicles, including a truck and two vans, to assist approximately 550 passengers on Wednesday evening. The services continued on Thursday, targeting workers and students unable to find transport due to the limited availability of modern and consolidated traditional jeepneys. Councilor Al Victor Espino emphasized the need for dialogue among all parties involved, pointing to the financial commitments already made by transport cooperatives to comply with modernization initiatives.
