Post: ASEAN Transport Ministers Convene in Luang Prabang to Enhance Connectivity and Sustainability

Luang Prabang – The 29th ASEAN Transport Ministers (ATM) Meeting, an important event for advancing regional integration and connectivity, was held on 9th and 10th November in Luang Prabang, Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the meeting underscored the pivotal role of transportation in achieving the ASEAN Vision of a more inclusive, integrated, sustainable, and people-oriented community. The ATM endorsed and adopted several key documents, including the ASEAN Air Navigation Services Master Plan and Safety Oversight Capabilities of National Aviation Administration, emphasizing the need for safety and sustainability in the transport sector.

Brunei Darussalam was represented at the meeting by Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications. The ATM also included a Ministerial Interface Meeting between the ASEAN Transport Ministers and the Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Meetings on 10th November. This was followed by meetings with ASEAN Dialogue Partners, including China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. The 29th ATM was preceded by the 56th ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM) and Associated Dialogue Partner Meetings on 7th and 8th November, attended by Awang Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications.
