House and MMDA Collaborate to Confiscate Illegal ‘8’ Plates on Vehicles

Manila – The House of Representatives and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) have reached an agreement to apprehend drivers of vehicles with unauthorized or expired protocol plates numbered ‘8.’ The announcement was made by House Secretary General Reginald Velasco on Wednesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Velasco met with MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Romando Artes to finalize the approach towards confiscating these illegal and unauthorized special protocol license plates. This decision stems from concerns over public safety and the integrity of the vehicle registration system. Velasco had previously issued a memorandum demanding the surrender of all old “8” plates and clarified that no lawmakers in the 19th Congress have been issued protocol plates. The House leadership is committed to upholding the law and ensuring the correct and lawful use of vehicle identification plates. The initiative aims to eliminate all spurious, expired, and counterfeit plates before issuing new ones. Protocol plate “8” is traditionally reserved for vehicles of members of the House of Representatives.
