AGUSAN DEL SUR – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region (DSWD-13) has provided essential aid to families affected by flooding in Agusan del Sur.
According to Philippines News Agency, on Monday, at least 3,310 families in the town of Veruela and 281 families in Sta. Josefa received family food packs (FFPs) as part of the agency's augmentation operations aimed at offering immediate relief.
The distribution of aid comes as the region continues to experience adverse weather conditions, with ongoing rains attributed to the shear line impacting Agusan del Sur and surrounding areas. The DSWD-13 emphasized its commitment to supporting the affected families, noting that additional 5,100 FFPs are currently en route to Bunawan, another municipality within Agusan del Sur.
In addition to the efforts of the DSWD-13, the Department of Public Works and Highways-13 (DPWH-13) reported that it is conducting clearing operations in Surigao del Sur to address the aftermath of landslides and floods triggered by continuous heavy rainfall. Key areas of focus include the Lingig-Bislig highway, where efforts are concentrated on Barangay Pagbakatan in Lingig town and a collapsed slope protection at Bislig Bridge in Bislig City. Clearing operations are also underway at the Taongon Bypass Road in Tagbina, Surigao del Sur, due to flooding, and along the Surigao-Davao Coastal Road in Barangay Ipil, Placer, Surigao del Norte, where soil erosion has been reported.
These initiatives underscore the collaborative response of local government units and national agencies to mitigate the impact of natural disasters on communities, ensuring that affected families receive timely and necessary support during these challenging times.
