Bandar seri begawan: ASEAN member countries are urged to fortify their defenses against the rapid proliferation of fake news, digital scams, and unchecked misinformation. Awang Ajman bin Haji Meludin, the Permanent Secretary for Civil Service Governance at the Prime Minister's Office, addressed the issue during the 23rd ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting Responsible for Information, SOMRI. The meeting, organized by the Prime Minister's Office, took place at a hotel in the capital and was attended by senior officials responsible for information from ASEAN member countries and the ASEAN Secretariat.
According to Radio Television Brunei, discussions focused on finalizing key long-term strategies, including creating a unified vision for public diplomacy, community awareness, and cross-border media cooperation in the years to come. It was also announced that Brunei Darussalam will hand over the chairmanship of SOMRI to Cambodia in 2027.
