Digital beam steering refers to changing the direction of laser pulses in a LiDAR. Using a stack of alternating liquid crystal cells and polarization gratings enables to steer light at different angles at a specific wavelength in order to augment a LiDAR field of view while maximizing its performance, allowing digital beam steering for LiDAR to be achieved.

Opening Protocol for Child Care Centres (Starting May 2022)

Child Care Centres under the Department of Community Development, JAPEM will be opened immediately until a date to be announced later with a limit of 80 per cent capacity at one time.

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports through the department informed the operation is based on the main conditions and preparedness of the centres according to the guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures, SOPs set by JAPEM, Ministry of Health and the Prime Minister's Office. Permission to operate must also comply with other conditions such as conducting ART 3 times weekly on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday at home for staff, parents and children. Only children aged 3 months and above are allowed to be sent to the Child Care Centres, while group activities are allowed.

Meanwhile Child Care Centres' owners must ensure that the premises have adequate ventilation with the installation of HepaFilters and only individuals with negative ART results are allowed to be at the premises. Individuals showing COVID-19 symptoms and of high risk are not allowed to enter.

Donations Presentation to the Orphans

The giving of alms is required by Islam and as a medium to distribute aid to those in need. Yesterday afternoon, Brothers Garage Company and De Dream Events held the donation presentation ceremony to 102 orphans from all districts.

The ceremony aimed to encourage the public to be involved in charity work and instil care among the people in the country.

Vegetable Industry Output 2021: $25.06 Million

The country's gross product value in crop industry increased by 14.29 percent, which is from 53.46 million dollars in 2020 to 61.10 million dollars in 2021. The vegetable and fruit sector is the largest contributor to the crop industry's overall gross output in the past year.

Last year's output value of the vegetable industry amounted to 25.06 million dollars. However, the output value of the sector recorded a decrease of point 3 per cent compared to 2020. Dayang Hajah Masliana Yuliah Binti Abdullah, the Acting Director of Agriculture and Agrifood said that this is due to a lack of farm workers, especially in conventional farms compared to high-tech farms. She added that the local vegetable and fruit commodity comprise tropical vegetables and fruits that are suitable to be grown in the country.

However, the output value in the fruit sector has increased to 19.99 million dollars last year compared to 14.02 million dollars in 2020. The value of multi-crop industry output increased by 37 percent from 3.56 million dollars in 2020 to 4.88 million dollars last year.

Meanwhile, the production value of paddy industry increased by 6.4 percent from 6.18 million dollars in 2020 to 6.58 million dollars in 2021.

Meanwhile, the value of cut flower industry output decreased by 1.3 percent from 0.05 million dollars in 2020 to 0.04 million dollars last year due to operators being less active during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

National Retirement Scheme Will Be Implemented In 2023

His Majesty's Government through the Ministry of Finance and Economy in collaboration with the Employee Trust Fund, TAP has introduced a new Retirement Scheme, which is the National Retirement Scheme, SPK which will be implemented in 2023.

In an exclusive interview, Awang Haji Muhammad Adfarul bin Haji Maz Adanan, Acting Deputy Managing Director of TAP explained that the new scheme is part of efforts by His Majesty's Government to continuously look after the welfare of the people as a whole and especially in terms of social protection before and after retirement. Awang Haji Muhammad Adfarul said, a thorough and detailed study of the effectiveness of TAP schemes has been completed. The main objective of the scheme is to improve the quality of life during retirement by providing inclusive and sustainable social security.

He added that among the benefits of the SPK is the additional production facilities before retirement, receive higher annuities after retirement for a period that can reach up to a lifetime. ART on Arrival Is Performed By the Passenger on Their Own At Home or Hotel, BruHealth Colour Code Will Automatically Change To Red

Following the changes to the SARS-CoV-2 test performed upon arrival in Brunei Darussalam at the Brunei International Airport starting on 6th of May 2022, the Ministry of Health has reviewed the handling of ART for all passengers of which starting yesterday afternoon, ART on arrival will be done by the passengers themselves when they arrive at their respective homes or hotels.

Each passenger will be given 3 ART kits upon arrival to be used on the day of arrival, on Day 2 and Day 3 after arrival and the results of each ART must be uploaded to the BruHealth application. The BruHealth colour code for each new passenger arriving in the country will automatically change to red. However, passengers who upload negative ART test results will be given a day pass for the day through their respective BruHealth application which allows them to enter any premises in the country. This directive is in accordance with the provisions under Section 62 'A' of the Infectious Diseases Act, Chapter 204 whereby failure to comply may result in legal action.

National Athletes Join 31st Sea Games

22 Brunei Darussalam's contingents including wushu and E-sports athletes yesterday morning left to Hanoi, Vietnam for the 31st South East Asia Games.

Present at the Brunei International Airport to bid farewell was Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. At this year's Sea Games, the country will, for the first time, participate in E-Sports, with all countries sending their representatives. The Games will start on the 12th until 23rd of May.

His Majesty Tahlil Ceremony

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday afternoon was at the Royal Mausoleum for the Tahlil Ceremony for His Majesty's late parents and son, Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien; Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit and Al-Marhum His Royal Highness Prince Haji 'Abdul 'Azim.

Also in attendance were His Majesty's sons and brothers;

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office;

- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik;

- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen;

- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel;

- His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah;

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; and

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris bin Pengiran Maharaja Lela Pengiran Muda Abdul Kahar, Yang Di-Pertua of Adat Istiadat Negara and Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti , followed by the reading of Tahlil, doa tahlil and doa selamat.

His Majesty then poured the ayeng asah-asahan or scented water on the graves of the monarch's late parents and son.
