BDF Encourages Spending Holiday in the Country, BDF Promotes Local Tourist Destinations

The Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism explained that the 5th Brunei December Festival starts yesterday until the 31st of December 2021. This is the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism's initiative through the Brunei Tourism Board in collaboration with several government and private agencies; foreign representatives and event planning companies.

According to Yang Berhormat, taking into account the current COVID-19 situation in the country, this year's Brunei December Festival will focus more on virtual events and activities. Physical activities are subject to the guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures stipulated by the Ministry of Health. 50 events have been lined up, with 42 virtual events and 8 physical events of various categories namely Islamic; Food and Culinary; Sports, Recreation and Adventure; Culture and Creative Arts; Shopping and Digital Tech and ICT. Virtual events include Virtual Hockey Clinic; 5th Brunei Film Blitz; The Tiny Lit Fest; 'Diskusi Komik'; Virtual Cooking Class; Online Shopping; E-Sports Competition and Coding Conquest Hackaton. Whereas physical events will include the Jawi Writing Workshop and Calligraphy Art Exhibition; Costume Run and the One City Expo 2021.

18 New Cases, 1 New Cluster Detected, 58 Cases Recovered

18 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the country yesterday, bringing the total cases to 15,111. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health stated the matter at a media conference on the latest COVID-19 situation yesterday afternoon at Dewan Al'Afiah, Ministry of Health. Joining the media conference was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism.

There are 3 additional new cases to 1 of the existing active cluster who are close contacts with several positive cases. Meanwhile, 1 new cluster was detected involving 5 cases which is Nur Naziba Construction Kota Batu Staff house Cluster, a housing cluster that accommodates the company's employees. 5 clusters were closed following no new detected cases for 28 days, namely Al Rejek Sendirian Berhad, Rentokil Initial, 4157, 8132 and Ban 3 Construction Staff House. Two import cases arrived from Egypt via Kuala Lumpur on board Royal Brunei flight BI 874 on the 17th of November 2021. 8 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of infection.

58 cases have recovered, taking the total recovered cases to 14,565, with 447 cases remaining active. 2 are in Category 5 and are being treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation, with 1 case requiring additional heart/lung machine, ECMO. Meanwhile, one case in Category 4 requires oxygen assistance and is under close monitoring. In the past 24 hours, 3,876 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of lab tests carried out since January 2020 to 623,500.
