16th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting

The 16th ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting, ADMM was held yesterday at the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia. With the theme "Solidarity for Harmonised Security", the Meeting observed the adoption of three Concept Papers by Cambodia, one Terms of Reference and notation of two Discussion Papers. Representing Brunei Darussalam to the meeting was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency General Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Cambodia.

The 16th ADMM also successfully adopted a Joint Statement titled "Phnom Penh Vision on the Role of Defence Establishments in Support of COVID-19 Recovery" as well as the "Joint Declaration of the ASEAN Defence Ministers on Defence Cooperation to Strengthen Solidarity for Harmonised Security". After the meeting, the ASEAN Defence Ministers and defence representatives made a joint courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Cambodia at the Peace Palace. Aside from the ADMM meeting, the ASEAN-Japan Defence Ministers' Informal Meeting was convened and co-chaired by the Prime Minister of Cambodia and His Excellency Kishi Nobuo, Minister of Defence of Japan. This was followed by the ASEAN-China Defence Ministers' Informal Meeting which convened virtually and co-chaired by the Prime Minister of Cambodia and His Excellency General Wei Fenghe, State Councillor and Minister of National Defence of China. Bilateral meetings were also held between Brunei Darussalam and Cambodia as well as Japan.
