Viral Video Sparks Clarification on Fish Stranding Incident at Jerudong Beach
Jerudong: Following a video which went viral on social media on Saturday, 10th May 2025, showing a large number of fish stranded on the Jerudong Beach coastal area, the Fisheries Department has clarified and confirmed that the incident is true and occurred at the stated location.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the Fisheries Department has conducted extensive monitoring and analysis of fish samples and water conditions in the area. The department confirmed that the stranding was not caused by any incident of red tide or toxic waste pollution. They emphasized the importance of sustainable fishing practices, urging fishermen to avoid discarding bycatch into the sea irresponsibly. This practice is crucial not only for preserving the sustainability of the country’s fishery resources but also for maintaining the balance of the marine ecosystem and ensuring the continuity of marine products for future generations.
The Fisheries Department has completed clean-up operations along the Jerudong Beach Coastal area, collecting and disposing of an estimated 180 kilogrammes of stranded fish. The public and fishermen have been advised to remain calm and not to panic in light of the incident.
