Kishida Visits Philippines to Enhance Bilateral Ties in Defense and Economy

VALENZUELA CITY — Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida arrived in the Philippines on Friday for a pivotal two-day visit aimed at deepening defense, security, and economic relations between Japan and the Philippines.

According to Philippines News Agency, on November 4, Prime Minister Kishida is set to visit the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) depot, including its train simulator room in Valenzuela City. The visit underscores the growing infrastructural cooperation between the two nations. The MMSP, a 33-kilometer rail system featuring 17 stations, is currently under construction and represents a significant stride in the Philippines’ public transport sector.

Upon completion, the MMSP is expected to dramatically decrease travel times, notably turning a typical 1 hour and 30-minute journey between Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 and Valenzuela City into a swift 35-minute commute. This enhancement in infrastructure is seen as a game-changer for the area, promising to improve connectivity and contribute to economic growth.
