Joint Operation on Weights and Measures Machines, Price-Controlled Items and Price Display

The Industry and Business Ecosystem Division through Weights and Measures Unit, SDT and DEPS through Department of Consumer Affairs under the Ministry of Finance and Economy has conducted a joint operation at several business premises in Kampung Sungai Liang and Kampung Lumut, Belait District on 15th of this month. The operation has found 20 units of weighing machines used for trading purposes are verified, accurate and registered accordance to Weights and Measures Act 1983 Chapter 151 as well as Weights and Measures, Verification Regulations 1994 Chapter 3, 1 and 2.

SDT officers also found several retail stores did not display net weight on packaged products such as vegetables, fruit, dry food and meats and misleading weight marks as stated on the package.

Meanwhile, the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics, DEPS has issued two Warning Notices and three compounds of 500 and 700 dollars for offences under the Price Control Act, Chapter 142, particularly selling above the maximum price for cooking oil and failure to display prices on some of the items in the business premises.
