UN Convention Against Cybercrime Sees Brunei’s Commitment to Global Cybersecurity

Hanoi: Brunei Darussalam remains committed to combating cybercrime and ensuring global cybersecurity to safeguard a secure digital future for all. This was underlined by the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Defence at the Chair of the National Security Committee at the plenary sessions of the High-Level Conference of the United Nations, UN Convention Against Cybercrime in the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohammad Yussof also highlighted the importance of regional and international collaboration among United Nations Member States in enhancing cyber resilience, information-sharing, and operational best practices.

According to Radio Television Brunei, Yang Berhormat Pehin also shared Brunei Darussalam’s domestic initiatives, including the establishment of the Anti-Scam Centre and the Anti-Scam Helpline, which aim to strengthen national response capabilities against online fraud.

Signing the UN Convention against Cybercrime on behalf of the Government of His Majesty was the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Defence. The signing signified Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to advancing the international legal framework for preventing and addressing transnational cybercrime.

Brunei Darussalam’s participation in this Convention will help to further strengthen the domestic legal framework on cybercrime, including more detailed legislative reviews and further deepen international cooperation in the field of cybercrime. The conference was attended by delegations from 110 UN Member States. It was officiated by His Excellency Luong Cuong, President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. Brunei Darussalam’s delegation also participated in the 2-day plenary sessions, chaired by His Excellency Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
