UBD Celebrates 36th Convocation with 1,158 Graduates Receiving Degrees
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – The University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD) held its 36th convocation ceremony today, where 1,158 graduates received their degrees and diplomas across various disciplines. The ceremony, graced by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Chancellor of UBD, took place at UBD’s Chancellor Hall.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the event began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti. His Majesty, upon arrival, was received by prominent figures including Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Doctor Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education, and Doctor Hazri bin Haji Kifle, Vice Chancellor of UBD. His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, attended as Pro-Chancellor of UBD.
In total, 822 graduates were conferred their PhD and Bachelor’s degrees during the morning session. Notably, 35 graduates received their PhD in fields ranging from Education to Computer Science, with one graduate being awarded a Dual Doctorate Degree in Industrial Engineering from both UBD and Sungkyunkwan University, South Korea. Additionally, 787 graduates received Bachelor Degrees in disciplines such as Digital Science, Literature, Business, and various Health Sciences.
The Vice Chancellor of UBD, in his welcoming address, highlighted significant developments in UBD’s infrastructure and reiterated UBD’s commitment to producing highly educated graduates attuned to industry needs. His Majesty delivered a formal speech giving consent to confer the degrees, underlining the university’s ongoing mission.
The convocation also marked a milestone with the first graduate from the School of Digital Science receiving a Bachelor’s Degree, signifying the expansion and adaptation of UBD’s academic offerings to meet global digital trends.
UBD’s recent inclusion in the QS Sustainability Rankings in 2023 was also celebrated as a testament to the impact of its research activities. The ceremony concluded with a Doa selamat read by the State Mufti, encapsulating the university’s aspirations for its graduates’ future endeavors.
