Typhoon Carina Causes Flight Cancellations and Diversions at Ninoy Aquino International Airport

MANILA — Due to the severe weather conditions brought on by Typhoon Carina and an enhanced southwest monsoon, thirty flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) were canceled, and four were diverted as of Tuesday afternoon.

According to Philippines News Agency, the inclement weather led to the cancellation of several flights across multiple airlines. Affected flights include Shenzhen Airlines’ route between Manila and Shenzhen, PAL Express flights to Basco, Tuguegarao, and Busuanga, and multiple routes by Cebu Pacific and CebGo servicing Tuguegarao, Laoag, Pagadian, San Jose, Naga, and Busuanga. AirSwift also canceled its Manila to Romblon route. Meanwhile, disruptions also saw AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines flights being diverted to alternate airports such as Iloilo and Clark.

The weather bureau has reported that the southwest monsoon, which has been intensified by Typhoon Carina, will continue to affect weather conditions across most of the country, particularly in Luzon. Batanes has been placed under wind signal no. 1 and is expected to experience strong winds as the typhoon progresses. The bureau continues to monitor the situation and provides updates as necessary.
