Tropical Storm Gaemi to Influence Weather Patterns in Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, BRUNEI — The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department reports that Tropical Storm Gaemi, currently positioned northeast of the Philippine Sea, is expected to indirectly affect the country’s weather. As Brunei is in the midst of the Southwest Monsoon, which is expected to continue until September, the region typically experiences stable atmospheric conditions with fewer thunderstorms.

According to Radio Television Brunei, as of 8 a.m. on July 21, 2024, Tropical Storm Gaemi was observed approximately 1,700 kilometers from Brunei Darussalam. The storm is moving northwest, away from Brunei, but is predicted to cause slightly windy conditions with potential gusty showers or thundershowers, particularly at sea and along coastal areas. Winds may gust up to 60 kilometers per hour during or near heavy showers. The general sea condition over Brunei waters is slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.7 meters. The public has been advised to take precautionary measures in anticipation of these conditions.
