Three Rizal Police Officers Arrested for Extortion and Illegal Detention

Rodriguez, Rizal – The Philippine National Police (PNP) anti-scalawag unit has arrested three police officers from Rodriguez, Rizal for extortion and illegal detention. The officers, identified as PSMS. Jose Reyes, Staff Sgt. Ramel Delorino, and SSgt. Glenn Libres of the Rodriguez Municipal Police, were apprehended following an entrapment operation.

According to Philippines News Agency, PNP-Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) chief Brig. Gen. Warren de Leon reported that the operation was conducted at the residence of an unnamed complainant in Barangay Rosario, Montalban, Rizal. The incident began on November 14 when the officers allegedly attempted to serve a warrant of arrest on the complainant’s live-in partner, Kristina Gabriel, for violating the Bouncing Check Law. Gabriel was not residing there at the time. The complainant was handcuffed, beaten, and threatened by the officers, who demanded PHP100,000 to avoid arresting Gabriel. The complainant was released with instructions to provide the money the following day. During the entrapment, two marked PHP1,000 bills, boodle money, three PNP-issued Glock pistols, a Toyota Hilux, and six mobile phones were seized from the suspects. They will face charges for robbery extortion, illegal detention, trespass to dwelling, and administrative cases. The suspects are currently detained at the IMEG custodial facility at Camp Crame, Quezon City. The IMEG, along with the Internal Affairs Service, is responsible for addressing misconduct among police officers.
