TESDA Certification Boosts Employment Prospects at Job Fairs, Says Labor Executive

DUMAGUETE — Job seekers with Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) certification have a competitive edge at job fairs, according to the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in Dumaguete.

According to Philippines News Agency, the PESO-Dumaguete chief, companies participating in job fairs often prioritize or require applicants to hold a TESDA National Certificate Level II (NCII) in addition to their conventional educational qualifications. This preference significantly enhances employment opportunities for TESDA-certified individuals. “Many companies that participate in our job fairs specifically ask for the NCII qualification,” Mira explained, noting that technical-vocational students frequently secure job offers even before completing their training.

The PESO is organizing a job fair on August 27 to celebrate TESDA’s 30th anniversary, with 12 local companies offering over 800 job positions. TESDA provincial director Fletcher Gumahad emphasized the high demand for skilled workers in the market, stating that NCII holders typically find employment more swiftly. However, Gumahad also mentioned that while there is a preference for NCII completers, it should not lead to discrimination, as employer preferences ultimately prevail in the hiring process.

Mira further highlighted the importance of not only skills and qualifications but also the right attitude in securing employment. “No company wants to hire someone who does not value their job,” she stated.
