Butuan Rice Farmers Receive PHP14 Million Solar-Powered Irrigation Project

BUTUAN, AGUSAN DEL NORTE — The National Irrigation Administration in Agusan del Norte (NIA-ADN) officially handed over a PHP14-million irrigation project to the Tagabaca-Aupagan Irrigators Association, Inc. on Friday. This initiative includes three solar-powered pumps designed to enhance agricultural productivity in the area.

According to Philippines News Agency, the newly installed irrigation system will service at least 25 hectares of rice farms in Barangay Tagabaca, benefiting not only the 15 members of the association but also extending to rice farmers in neighboring communities. Reynaldo Cabahug, president of the association, highlighted the project’s potential to boost crop yields and increase farmers’ income while also reducing their workload by providing a consistent and adequate water supply.

Cabahug expressed gratitude towards the government and the NIA for their support, noting the significance of transitioning to a modern, solar-powered irrigation system, which he described as a game-changer for local agriculture.
