Sultan of Brunei to Attend 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala lumpur: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, will attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits from 26th to 28th October 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Malaysia, as Chair of ASEAN this year, will preside over the Summits which will gather the Heads of State and Government of ASEAN and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste as well as Dialogue Partners. The agenda will focus on strengthening ASEAN Centrality by promoting strategic trust among countries, enhancing intra-ASEAN trade and investment, and ensuring inclusivity and sustainability in regional Community-building efforts.

According to Radio Television Brunei, during the 46th ASEAN Summit earlier this year, Leaders adopted the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future. This declaration charts the future direction of ASEAN over the next two decades, aiming to develop ASEAN into a resilient, innovative, dynamic, and people-centred Community by 2045. The adoption also highlighted ASEAN’s vision of becoming the epicentre of growth in the Indo-Pacific region. A significant outcome of the 46th Summit was the consensus among Leaders to admit the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste as the 11th member of ASEAN during the 47th ASEAN Summit.

Under the theme of ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’ for this year’s Chairmanship, the shared progress for ASEAN is emphasised to ensure that no one is left behind. This underscores ASEAN’s commitment to strengthening regional peace, stability, and prosperity within an inclusive, sustainable, and future-oriented framework.
