Opening Of Policy Outreach and Exchange Seminar
Since the launch of the policy, Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy, BNCCP in 2020, Brunei Darussalam has successfully reduced its yearly greenhouse gas emissions against the country’s target for these past two years, setting up a strong foundation towards meeting its Nationally Determined Contributions commitment, as part of the Paris Agreement.
Speaking at the Opening Session of the Policy Outreach and Exchange Seminar on Building Regional Capacity for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation yesterday morning, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy who is also the Co-Chair of the Brunei National Council on Climate Change, also stated that, the country will setting up an ASEAN Centre for Climate Change. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd. Amin Liew bin Abdullah, setting up the centre provides further opportunities for knowledge exchange, capacity-building initiatives, and policy coordination among ASEAN Member States.
The seminar brought together 100 representatives from government, the private sector, and academia to share ideas, best practices, and innovative approaches for climate change adaptation and mitigation. Organised by The European Union, EU and the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat, the seminar focused on strategies for building regional capacity to address climate change, specifically in research, technology transfer, and policy development.
