Manila Reports Surge in Garbage Collection Following ‘Undas’ Celebrations
MANILA – In the aftermath of the ‘Undas’ festivities, the Manila City government reported an increase in garbage collection from cemeteries.
According to Philippines News Agency, spokesperson of Manila Mayor Honey Lacuña Pangan, the city’s sanitation teams gathered 87 truckloads, amounting to 229 metric tons of waste, from October 28 to November 1. This marks a significant rise from the previous year’s collection. Specifically, on November 1, the Manila North Cemetery accounted for 12 truckloads, translating to 38 metric tons. The Manila South Cemetery contributed 8 truckloads, weighing in at 18 metric tons. For comparison, in 2022, the total collection was 62 truckloads or 148 metric tons, divided between Manila North Cemetery with 34 truckloads or 88 metric tons and Manila South Cemetery with 28 truckloads or 60 metric tons. In anticipation of ‘Undas’, city officials had issued reminders to the public to maintain cleanliness and properly dispose of their refuse.
