Senator Poe Calls for Cancellation of Penalties Against Early E-Vehicle Violators in Manila

Manila — Senator Grace Poe has formally requested that the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) annul all penalties imposed on electric bicycles and tricycles apprehended before the issuance of a new grace period directive by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

According to Philippines News Agency, the enforcement of MMDA Regulation 24-022—which bans e-bikes and e-trikes from major roads in Metro Manila—led to confusion and unwarranted penalties against e-vehicle owners. The regulation, which began on Monday, restricts these vehicles from national, circumferential, and radial roads.

Poe supports President Marcos’ decision from Thursday that grants a one-month grace period to adjust to the new rules, aiming to provide sufficient time for public awareness. She argues that those penalized before the announcement should also benefit from this decision, suggesting that previous fines and impoundments be voided.

The Senator’s call underscores a need for clearer communication and policy-making from the MMDA and local governments to ensure that transportation regulations are fair and consider the challenges faced by commuters who rely on these alternative vehicles for their daily transport needs.
