Safeguarding Neighbourly Rights Emphasized in Friday Sermon

Bandar seri begawan: Islam advocates for strong neighbourly relations, urging the ummah to uphold good manners and maintain harmony with neighbours regardless of religion, race, or social status. This message was central to the Friday Prayer sermon titled “Safeguarding the Rights of Neighbours.” The sermon emphasized the importance of compromise, mutual respect, and consideration in neighbourhood interactions, highlighting the need to manage pets appropriately and minimize noise, particularly during nighttime.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the sermon outlined several responsibilities and rights integral to coexisting with neighbours. These include greeting neighbours warmly, visiting them during illness or bereavement, and offering forgiveness for their mistakes. Additionally, the sermon encouraged helping neighbours in times of need, refraining from exposing their flaws or spreading slander, and avoiding causing harm or distress through words, actions, or behaviour. The sermon also stressed the significance of kindness towards neighbours’ children, reinforcing the broader theme of fostering a supportive and respectful community environment.
