Ferry spots boat of missing PCG rescuers in Cagayan waters

A commercial passenger ferry has spotted the aluminum boat of four rescuers from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) who went missing while on a rescue mission during the onslaught of Typhoon Egay last week. In a situation update, the PCG said M/V Eagle Ferry spotted the unmanned boat floating in the seas near Calayan Island in Cagayan on Sunday. ‘Kwento ng kapitan, nakita nila itong palutang-lutang pitong milya mula sa naturang isla (According to the captain’s statement, they saw the boat floating about seven miles from the said island),’ it said. The boat was later found in Barangay Fuga, Aparri in Cagayan. The boat’s occupants remain missing, with the PCG continuing its search and rescue (SAR) operations. ‘Nagpapatuloy naman ang malawakang aerial at surface SAR operations para mahanap ang apat na PCG rescuers (Widespread aerial and surface SAR operations are ongoing to find the four missing PCG rescuers),’ it said. On July 26, four PCG personnel went missing after their boat capsized in waters off Abulug town in Cagayan while en route to rescue the crew of a tugboat in dangerous waters. The team was dispatched around 4 p.m. and headed to M/Tug Iroquis, located 21 nautical miles from Aparri, before the incident.
