Products of Doubtful Halal Status Alert Issued by Ministry of Religious Affairs
Bandar Seri Begawan: Owners, managers, entrepreneurs, traders, suppliers, and importers of products and consumer goods in the country are urged to remain vigilant and exercise heightened sensitivity regarding imported products and consumer goods. The Ministry of Religious Affairs, through the Syariah Affairs Department, has issued this reminder to ensure that halal products are not mixed with non-halal products in supermarkets or shops. This advisory follows complaints received by the Halal Food Control Division concerning two specific food products.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the MyProtein brand’s Matcha Flavoured Layered Treat Without The Cheat, produced by Thehutgroup, THG Nutrition Limited in the United Kingdom, has been confirmed to contain collagen derived from cows. The halal status of this product is doubtful, as it lacks recognition from a recognized Halal Certification Body.
Additionally, Tim Tam brand biscuits, produced by Arnott’s Biscuit Limited in Australia, were found to be manufactured and processed using the same equipment as products containing non-halal meat. To safeguard the welfare of the Muslim community in the country, the Syariah Affairs Department has instructed business owners who sell food products from these companies to immediately isolate them and sell them in areas not exposed to the public.
