UV Green Lancers Dominate at PRISAA National Games, Clinch Multiple Titles


LEGAZPI CITY — The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers triumphed in men’s basketball with a decisive 97-71 win against Bicol University at the 2024 Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) National Games, concluding Central Visayas’ dominant performance across various sports.



According to Philippines News Agency, the Green Lancers’ victory was a highlight in a series of successes for Central Visayas, which secured a total of 119 gold, 73 silver, and 65 bronze medals. The region also claimed victory in men’s and women’s beach volleyball. In the men’s category, they defeated Western Visayas 23-21, 21-8 at Sawangan Park, and in women’s, they overcame Soccsksargen 21-12, 22-20 at the University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi beach volleyball court.



Additional golds for Central Visayas came from boxing, with Freshler Utera (51kgs) and Jericho Asilo (57kgs) winning their bouts at the Pacific Mall. Meanwhile, Western Visayas finished second in the overall medal tally with strong performances, including a win in the women’s volleyball final against Soccsksargen with scores of 25-17, 25-21, 18-25, 25-14 at Divine Word College-Legazpi.



The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) secured the third position, showcasing its archery prowess by dominating both individual and team events at the old Albay airport. They also gained additional victories in boxing through athletes Kathleen Igualdo and Frenzie Allen Golocan.



The top ten regions in the medal tally showcased a competitive spirit across various sports disciplines, with notable performances from Calabarzon, Ilocos Region, and Negros Island Region, among others. The Bicol Region led the Youth division with a strong showing in archery, capturing numerous golds in individual and team categories.
