President Marcos Optimistic for More Medals Following Yulo’s Gymnastics Gold at Paris Olympics
PARIS — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed hope for more Olympic successes following Carlos Edriel Yulo’s gold medal in men’s gymnastics at the 2024 Paris Olympics, marking a historic achievement in the floor exercise final late Saturday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos extended congratulations to Yulo, who scored 15.000 points to clinch the country’s first gold medal in artistic gymnastics at this year’s Games. Marcos praised Yulo’s performance and expressed confidence in the potential for additional medals. This triumph follows the country’s previous Olympic gold by weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz at the 2021 Tokyo Games.
Diaz herself took to social media to commend Yulo, affectionately known as Caloy. She emphasized the importance of appreciating his hard work and giving back to the community and nation, highlighting the collective nature of personal achievements. Diaz’s supportive message reflected her role as a mentor within the Philippine sports community.
Carlos Yulo is set to compete in the vault finals on Sunday night at Bercy Arena, aiming to continue his medal success and add to the Philippines’ achievements in Paris.
