Post: Philippines Advocates for Digital Infrastructure Financing at APEC Meeting

MANILA - The Philippine government has urged member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to focus on financing digital infrastructure projects, emphasizing the need to bridge the digital divide. This call was made during the 34th APEC Ministerial Meeting (AMM) on November 14, as per a statement forwarded by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

According to Philippines News Agency, who represented the Philippines at the AMM, the country highlighted the importance of digitalization and innovation in economic recovery post-pandemic. He stressed the need for APEC to narrow developmental gaps swiftly and ensure that necessary physical infrastructure supports the adoption of digital technologies. Manalo also pointed out the importance of cooperation in financing infrastructure, including smart and green technologies, to enable growth and global economic integration. He emphasized the significance of capacity building and knowledge sharing, particularly in the face of risks associated with technology protectionism. The Philippines views APEC as a crucial platform for addressing challenges like geopolitical events, food and energy insecurity, supply chain disruptions, and climate change. In meetings on the sidelines, Manalo engaged with foreign ministers from Canada, Japan, and Papua New Guinea, discussing cooperation in various fields, including maritime, economic ties, defense, and security.
