Philippine Army Secures Four Gold Medals in ROTC Games Kickboxing Competition

Manila — The Philippine Army clinched four gold medals in the kickboxing event of the Reserves Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Games National Championships. The competition took place at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex this Friday.

According to a news release by Philippines News Agency, Betty May Churping of the University of Baguio outscored Camille Joy Sanchez of the Philippine Air Force in the female 52kg class. Churping’s schoolmate, Kathleen Igualdo, triumphed over Army’s Angelie Musa from Sibugay Technical Institute in the female 56kg category. In the female 60kg class, Kristel Grace Llenas of Quezon City University prevailed over Army’s Pauline Gallardo. Christopher Manipon, also representing the University of Baguio, won by points over Navy’s Jerome Negapatan in the male 57kg class.

In other weight categories, Ghen-Yan Berdon of the Air Force and Klenov Belo Pacada of the Navy won the male 60kg and 63.5kg categories, respectively. Berdon secured a first-round knockout against Army’s Mark Christian Ursabia, while Pacada won by points over Air Force’s Lloyd Salva.

The esports segment of the ROTC Games also witnessed the Philippine Navy clinching a gold medal in the Call of Duty: Mobile event. Represented by the John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, the Navy team bested the Army’s STI West Negros University with a score of 2-1. The Air Force’s PATTS secured a 2-1 win over Tanauan Institute Inc. to claim the bronze medal.

The ROTC Games is organized in collaboration with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Department of National Defense, Commission on Higher Education, and the Philippine Sports Commission. The event aims to bolster sports programs, encourage physical education, cultivate self-discipline, promote teamwork, and train young athletes for international competitions.
