DILG Honors Families of Fallen PNP, BJMP, BFP Officers with Christmas Gift Packs

Manila: In a heartwarming gesture, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) distributed Christmas gift packs to 193 dependents of 104 fallen police officers, firefighters, and jail personnel. The event, symbolizing gratitude and remembrance, took place at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City on Saturday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, along with leaders from the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), presided over the gift-giving ceremony. In a press release, Abalos emphasized the significance of the event as a tribute to the heroism of the fallen officers who sacrificed their lives for the nation. He described the activity as a simple yet meaningful acknowledgment of the families’ sacrifices, referring to them as the unsung heroes of this generation.

PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda, Jr. echoed these sentiments, highlighting the event as a collaborative effort among DILG agencies to show care and support for the bereaved families. He remarked on the event’s embodiment of the Christmas spirit—selfless giving, love, and hope.

The initiative extended beyond Manila, with similar gift-giving activities conducted in other parts of the country, benefiting 535 families in total. Most gift packs were sourced from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), while Ayala Corporation contributed 100 health cards, and SM Malls donated 200 stuffed toys. The event stood as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the community’s enduring support for the families of those who have bravely served and sacrificed for their country.
