Post: Over 81,000 Families Affected by Bad Weather in the Philippines

Manila – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that bad weather conditions due to a shear line and a low-pressure area have affected over 81,000 families across the Philippines. This situation has impacted various regions, causing significant distress and displacement.

According to Philippines News Agency, the affected families, totaling 307,087 individuals, are from 503 barangays in five regions: Calabarzon, Bicol, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga. Currently, 3,670 families, or about 5,831 individuals, are housed in 104 evacuation centers, with an additional 9,080 families or 37,834 people receiving aid outside these centers. The Office of Civil Defense stated that these families include both those displaced and those who did not require transfer from their residences. Additionally, some 31 houses in Bicol, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas have been reported as damaged. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has warned of significant rainfall in parts of the country, forecasting around 100 to 200 mm. of rainfall over several provinces. This inclement weather has also led to a tragic incident in Northern Samar, where a landslide caused by heavy rains resulted in one fatality in Ynaguingayan village, Pambujan town. Flooding has also affected 1,506 families in 11 villages in Pambujan. In response to these conditions, Northern Samar Governor Edwin Onchuan declared the suspension of classes and work in specific sectors for Wednesday.
