Manila - Oluoma 'Oly' Okaro of Akari has been named the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Press Corps Player of the Week for her standout performances from July 23 to July 27.

According to Philippines News Agency, the American opposite hitter tallied 38 points in a dramatic five-set win over the Choco Mucho Flying Titans on July 23, matching the league’s fifth-highest single-game score record. Okaro's pivotal play helped secure a comeback victory with set scores of 18-25, 16-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-13. Further showcasing her skills, Okaro scored 31 points in another intense match against the two-time defending champions, Petro Gazz, on July 27, leading to a 23-25, 21-25, 25-23, 29-27, 16-14 victory.

Her consistent performance throughout the week also included a significant 16-point game against Capital1 on July 18, contributing to Akari's victory. Okaro was chosen for the weekly honor over notable players like Cignal’s MJ Perez, Capital1’s Marina Tushova, and Choco Mucho’s Royse Tubino, with the decision made by a panel of online, broadsheet, and tabloid reporters covering the league.

The Chargers, currently leading Pool B, are set to face the winless ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles next. Okaro expressed her team's resilience and collective spirit, emphasizing their determination to compete fiercely in every match.
