NIA Launches Kadiwa ng Pangulo Program in Negros Oriental
Sibulan, Negros Oriental – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has inaugurated its Kadiwa ng Pangulo program in Sibulan, Negros Oriental, marking a significant step in supporting local farmers and communities. The launch saw participation from several farmer groups across various towns and cities.
According to Philippines News Agency, Engineer Helen Lacpao, head of the NIA-Negros Oriental Satellite Office, emphasized the importance of the Kadiwa program in helping farmers sell their produce directly to consumers at lower prices, bypassing middlemen. This initiative is the first of its kind initiated by the NIA in collaboration with the Sidlakang Negros Federation of Irrigators Associations, Inc. (SINEFIA) in the province. Engineer Maria Donesa Autida, acting chief of the NIA-Region 7 Operations Section, mentioned that similar Kadiwa programs have been launched in Bohol and Cebu and are planned for Siquijor. The program is not only a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. but is also recognized for its value in aiding both farmers and the community.
Participants in the Kadiwa sa NIA included farmers and irrigators from various cities and towns within Negros Oriental, showcasing their produce and products at the NIA-Sibulan compound. Nilo Lauron, chairman of SINEFIA, expressed gratitude for the strong response from the farming community and envisioned ongoing collaboration with various farmers’ and irrigators’ associations. Plans are underway to sustain the Kadiwa at NIA regularly to enhance the livelihood of local farmers.
